Schnitty #5

Maid of Auckland

926 South Rd, Edwardstown SA 5039

Located 16 minutes South of Adelaide, and just across the road from The Avoca, the Maid of Auckland is a pub, but it isn’t just a pub, its more a formal setting that does not resemble that much of a pub in out opinion. Walking in, the atmosphere was quaint and quiet, with simple decor but the right fit for us, but it did not prepare for what was in store for the schnitty.

The Price for the schnitty is $22, the common price that we have came across for a schnitty. The schnitty is served with fresh garden salad, gravy that is actually served with a gravy boat and a largish schnitty that took up a considerable amount of the plate. One of the larger schnitty’s we have encountered.

We all had the same reaction when we took a bite into the schnitty and it was ‘Hot Dam’ we could not stop going over how amazing the schnitty tasted. The other patrons at the Maid of Auckland did not know what we got ourselves into. The schnitty was cooked to perfection to the point where it melted in your mouth. The crumb was on point, not too dry or greasy but just right where it didn’t fall off. The chips were flavorsome and crunchy with every bite. And finally the gravy was thick and of the right amount, just enough leftover so you could consume the remaining chips that you would have on the plate.

The Maid of Auckland’s upper hand was clearly the dish in itself, where the schnitty, the gravy and the chips were all given a solid 10/10. Coupled with the service and the atmosphere, it provided and almost perfect experience for all three of us. A stark difference from the Avoca which was just across the road.

Overall, we could not recommend the Maid of Auckland enough and would suggest that anyone who wants the best schnitty in Adelaide then this is the place to go!
