Located 18 minutes South of Adelaide, The Marion Hotel and Cellars is a mixture of casual but a more upbeat bistro where the decor captures your breath away when walking in. A spacious area that mixes restaurant, pub and also live venue that is suited for all ages and individuals. Deciding last minute that nobody else was going to come, I rocked up just after the beach in a jumper, board shorts and also thongs. I was quite under dressed and also learning french, I had a french booklet on me so I did seem out of place. I would recommend a more neat casual attire like you are going on a date. Otherwise I did feel comfortable walking in, due to the shock of how beautiful the Marion Hotel is.
Anyway, moving onto the schnitty. The Price of the schnitty was a total of $22.5 + $2 for gravy which I thought was a stitch up compared to more schnitty’s that are of a cheaper price and possibly of better deliciousness. The Schnitty was served with fresh garden salad with some tartar sauce and also crispy golden chips. The schnitty was of a decent size, it did take up half the plate; however the schnitty was not flat but rather curved which made cutting it up slightly difficult as it makes keeping everything on the plate troublesome.
The size of the schnitty was a medium size of the schnitty’s so far, possibly slightly bigger but from the Torrens Arms, it paled in comparison. The schnitty tasted fine, but the real let down was that the schnitty was quite tough to chew and get your teeth to cleanly take a bite, which is disappointing compared to the Maid of Auckland that was a clean bite through the schnitty. The chips also tasted delicious; however, they were stuck together like a bird’s nest and required a knife to cut through half the chips. Another let down as I prefer to pick them up singular not the whole bunch. The gravy was perfect and worth the extra two dollars. Perfect amount and a strong pepper flavour that made the whole schnitty a whole lot better.
The service was also pretty good, except for the fact (And the same for The Warradale) is that you get a buzzer and pick up your food which is out of place in my opinion due to the upscale decor and professionalism from the staff. Although the upper hand is the atmosphere. Since I was by myself and also struggling to learn my French I was able to soak up the scenery and look around that everyone from all ages, from families to first dates to couples and also friends getting together from all backgrounds which makes the Marion Hotel special
Overall, the atmosphere is worth the trip to the Marion Hotel, but for the schnitty, maybe give it a pass and try something else on the menu.
